Our Role
The Appeal Tribunal reviews appeals arising from decisions made by the competent authority responsible for refugee status determination, in accordance with Rwanda’s laws and applicable procedures. It provides an impartial forum where eligible appellants can challenge decisions and have their cases reviewed in accordance with the law.
The Tribunal does not determine refugee claims at first instance. Its role is to provide an independent appellate mechanism within the refugee status determination system and to ensure that appeals are considered fairly, efficiently and in accordance with applicable national, regional and international legal standards.
