Overview

The Appeal Tribunal for Refugees and Applicants for Refugee Status is an independent quasi-judicial institution established to provide an effective appeal mechanism for refugees and applicants for refugee status who are dissatisfied with  decisions made at first instance by  Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration.

The establishment of the Appeal Tribunal represents an important step in strengthening Rwanda’s Refugee Protection and Asylum System. It reinforces the principles of fairness, due process, accountability, access to justice and respect for human dignity, while contributing to the consistent and credible application of refugee law.
